Provide food and clothing to poor senior citizen
Vizhuthukal Trust works with the marginalized elderly people to provide food, medicines, and clothing around Tirunelveli district. One unit of this program will cover the one set of clothes, groceries, vegetables and 10 kilos of rice to poor elderly citizen every month. In the year of 2023-2024, there are 1,433 aged poor senior citizen were benefited worth of Rs.17,02,713/-
Provide groceries and vegetables to poor aged
The selected 60 poor aged women those who are managing their daily needs by doing waste pick in the carbage are provided with gorcereis and vegetables every month in 6 slums of Tirunelveli corporation. These women were supported the worth of Rs.2,72,500/- in the year of 2023-2024.
A health programme for chidlren aged below 5
A health programme for the chidlren aged below 5, were supplied the Vitamin A and Albendazol tablets with the support Vitamin Angels USA, with the help of the Government village health nurse in 11 hamlets of Tirunelveli district. In the year of 2023-2024 we have reached 1200 slum chidlren by this programme.
Sanitation project to urban Scavengers
Lack of clean toilets in the slums of Tirunelveli City Corporation of Tamilnadu state in South India and the resulting open defecation impacts the environment and pollutes water sources. More devastating fact is that it strips off poor women, especially, of their dignity. This kind of motivated participation of the beneficiaries shall create positive impact on the neighborhood families which could become a culture to build toilets on their own copying the model of those families that have already use the toilets from the program we propose to initiate. Vizuthual Trust constructed 35 individual toilets to urban slum domestic workers with the support of Selavip Foundation in 5 hamlets of Tirunelvlei corpoation.
Homes to homless scavengers
The project is to provide quality affordable housing to the scavengers living either in rented shackles-like structures or in make-shift huts without any basic facilities like water, sanitation, and permanent roofs. Therefore, it is envisioned to build affordable and livable simple decent houses for 25 scavenging families living in the slums of Tirunelveli city corporation area. This project to provide quality affordable housing to the impoverished weaker sections is fundamental to reduce poverty, improve health and longevity, improve equal opportunities, and guarantee sustainable growth:
Children Resource centres
Vizhuthukal Trust has started three resource centers. Including this, eight resource centers have been functioning very well. In addition to the already functioning Resource centers we have extended the new inclusion of physically challenged children. The students make use of the available resources like play things and study materials in the centers. They spend their leisure time usefully and constructively. By this way of activities the students develop their mental and physical health as well. Having experienced this exposure, the students show their talents in the curriculum as well as extracurricular activities. They express their potentiality with out shyness by surpassing other students.
Income generation for poor women
Most our target people are dalit women domestic workers, scavengers and agricultural coolies. So with the help of GiveIndia donors, Vizhuthukal Trust provided 2 goats each to generate the income of the poor women. Vizhuthukal Trust provided 2 goats each every beneficiary for the cost of Rs. Rs. 5,000/- reached 208 poor women sofar.
Educational empowerment to girl children
Scavengers are psychologically, socially, economically and educationally very pathetic situation. Educational empowerment is the foremost need of the girl children of Scavenger community, which leads the key role for their holistic sustainable development. Additionally, the following stuff also add to their miserable condition of their girl children’s educational condition. The main purpose of this project is socio-economic development of under privileged girl children in the mainstream of the society by raising their dignity through education and to make the children of the Arunthathiyar community to understand the importance of the education by providing desirable environment (Tuition centers) and schooling materials (Uniforms, school bags and other stationeries).
Enrolment of Domestic workers and scavengers
Vizhuthukal Trust’s one of the main thrust of this year is formation and strengthens the Domestic worker’s District level Federation. Domestic workers status in Tirunelveli district is very pathetic. They are mostly dalit community women and treating as discriminating - dehumanizing – indignity and exploiting by employers. They are getting very low salary of Rs.15/- per hours. Therefore, there is an urgent need is to srenghthen the Federation. To achieve this goal, we are concentrating to form the hamlets level unit in all ward of the Tirunelveli Corporation. We have formed 1317 women domestic workers and scavengers as units’ in 15 wards so far. Now the fedaration is decided to demand the salary of RS.30/hours . The outcome of the awarness continuously given by vizhuthukal trust about Social security scheme increasing the enrolment of Domestic workers and scavengers in Social Security Scheme implementing by the Government of Tamil Nadu is a good opportunity to make an identity of them. By enrolling them in the scheme, they can avail various benefits like accident insurance, children scholarship, financial help to immediate expenses for funeral rites;old age pension after their age of 58 etc.,Vizhuthukal Trust enrolled 1317 so far.
